Fake Selfies
A way to add some pizzazz to your student projects is to include some personal touches that bring it to life. A fake selfie is a great addition that helps to make that happen.
A fake selfie is easy to create when using the remove.bg website and PowerPoint. First, take a picture of who you want to be in the selfie. Then upload that image to remove.bg. It will automatically remove the background and leave only any humans in the picture. Did it not get it perfectly? That is OK! You are able to edit the image and use their eraser tool to get rid of any residual stuff left over. Once you have that cleaned up, download the image to your computer.
Now it is time for PowerPoint. Open a new file and insert an image from the place you will be visiting. If you do not have an image you want to use, the best course of action is to use the online picture option right within PowerPoint. That way you are working with copyright friendly images. Once the background image is inserted, add the edited image you saved on top of it. Resize that image and place it where you want.
Finally, save your new image. Choose File > Save as, name your image and choose where you want to save it. Finally, in the drop-down option choose to save as a .jpeg or .png file.
To guide you and your students through the process, download and print out this task card.
Ideas for implementation:
- As your students are researching a location, have them insert an image of themselves into a place they would visit while they are there.
- Students can put themselves into the scene of a book or movie.
- Hang out with a famous person or place in history.
- Visit a battle ground you are studying about.
