Creating a Second Chrome Profile

There are many times you want to test how something will work in Chrome without having all of our credentials already in place. Create a 2nd clean profile in Chrome to test with.

In the educational profession, many instances occur when we are trying to work with a site to see how it will react when a new user is attempting to access it for the first time. That can be hard to do when your Chrome profile keeps all of your information stored. I used to use a different browser to test, but the students in our district all use Chrome, so I really need to see how it reacts in our environment. 

You can create an extra profile for Chrome that you can keep clean of your user information.  Then you can easily switch from one profile to another to run tests.  Follow the steps below to create your extra profile:

  1. Select your profile image in the upper right of the window
  2. Select Manage People
  3. Chose to Add Another Profile, name the profile, and choose an avatar to represent it

To switch to another profile, select your profile picture again.  In the drop-down menu you will see the other profiles that are available.  Select the one you want. The Chrome icon in your system tray will show the image/avatar of the profile you are currently in.

UPDATE!

Microsoft is developing a Chromium type browser, called the developer version of Edge, where you can add extensions and apps to the Edge browser much like Chrome.  You can also create a 2nd profile in the developer to have the same experience as you would in Chrome.  To learn more about this, and to download the developer browser, visit the Microsoft Edge Developer site.

Have you heard of Flipgrid? The answer to that question is most likely, yes. But have you heard of a #Fliphunt? I was able to participate in my very first #Fliphunt activity while attending the MIE Expert and Showcase School Leadership Summit in Florida in conjunction with FETC.

A #Fliphunt is an engaging lesson format that uses Flipgrid as a platform for a scavenger hunt type activity. Students respond to challenges in various ways on the provided Flipgrid. Talk about ENGAGEMENT!!

Presenting #Fliphunts at TCEA was a huge success, so I knew this was something I had to share with my teachers right away. I started by creating a fun activity for our CTI (Campus Technology Integrator) meeting so that they could go back and share the Flipgrid #Fliphunt love with their campuses. I’d say they became big fans right away!!

I know that your teachers will love #Fliphunts as much as I do. Simply click on this link and sign in with your Google account. It will connect your Google drive to the site and prompt you to open up an existing Google sheet. If you have not created one yet, you can create a new sheet and enter in the info that you would like in your app. Then link to that new sheet. For this example I chose 4 different columns of information:

  • Application
  • Description
  • Logo
  • Resource Link

The app will connect to the data you have entered and do its best to place the information into the app the way it thinks you would like it to appear.  You can also edit the view of the app a bit.
