Brandon Petersen

From starting his journey in a small town in Montana to living it up in the big city, Brandon Petersen is an admitted geek, pop culture junkie, and fan of learning.
Brandon spent the last two years serving as a Microsoft Learning Consultant for Microsoft in Education (one of only 16 in the whole world). He spent his time in schools across Colorado providing FREE professional development and support for Technology Tools like Skype, Sway, OneNote, and Minecraft: Education Edition. During this time he helped a variety of schools, but soon fell in love with Altitude Elementary where he now currently teaches Third Grade! He started his career however as an Elementary / Preschool Teacher and Course Developer for Douglas County School District for 10 years followed by a few years as a Field Support Specialist for Denver Public Schools.

Over the past few years, Brandon has developed a huge appreciation for Computer Science and the power it plays in a lot of jobs in our world. He helped bring FREE Computer Science training for all teachers in Colorado, thanks in part to Code.org. Brandon has enjoyed exploring modern day industry and careers that require programming, problem solving, and algorithmic thinking while figuring out how to best integrate that into education so that every students has the skill sets needed to fill jobs and roles within Computer Science and beyond.

When he has free time, he loves to see new movies, hang with friends, learn new things from colleagues, swim, and play games (especially dorky board games). Brandon\’s family at home revolves all around his little Chihuahua, Honey, who definitely rules the household and ensures there is plenty of fetching, nature walks, and outdoor exploring to do!
